Hoppe Swing Hook Shootbolt Middle Extension, 39-13/16" (1012mm) with Two Hooks

This is the middle section of a Hoppe HLS9000 swing hook and shootbolt lock strip. It carries the drive bar up the door to two hooks above the handle. Unlike the gear below it and the top extension above it, this piece carries no shootbolt.

A swing hook and shootbolt lock works in two directions at once. The hooks rotate out sideways, catch behind keepers in the jamb and pull the panel in against the weatherseal. The shootbolts drive vertically into the head and the sill. Hoppe built the combination for wind load: the hooks stop the door being pushed off the jamb, the bolts stop it twisting out of square, and together they hold a tall panel flat against pressure that would defeat either on its own.

The complete strip is three pieces. The gear at the bottom carries one hook and one shootbolt. A middle extension carries the hooks above the handle. A top extension carries the shootbolt into the head. All three are ordered separately, and the middle extension is what sets the point count: the twin hook version makes the five point lock, the single hook version makes four.

Manual operation. Lifting the handle throws every hook and every shootbolt on the strip at once; the key throws the deadbolt separately.
