Hoppe Inactive Shootbolt Top Extension, 34-1/16" Long
This is the upper section of a Hoppe 16mm inactive shootbolt strip.
An inactive lock goes on the passive leaf of a French or double door pair, the side you do not normally open. It has no deadbolt and no key cylinder. Lifting the handle drives shootbolts up into the head of the frame and down into the sill, which pins that leaf shut and gives the active leaf's multipoint something solid to latch against. Drop the handle and both bolts withdraw, so the pair opens to the full width when you want it.
It bolts above the gear and carries the drive bar up to the shootbolt that fires into the head of the frame. Hoppe's own note on this range is worth knowing: a top extension can be fitted as a bottom extension, so a single part number covers both ends of the strip and you can sometimes buy two of the same length rather than hunting a matched pair.
Size it by the door, not by the part you think you have. The figure that matters is the distance from the handle spindle to the top of the door: on this extension that is 52-9/16" (1335mm). The overall length column then tells you which door heights it covers once it is paired with a 36 inch handle height gear.
Hoppe built the 16mm inactive strip two ways, and this is the thing to settle first. The two piece version uses a combined gear and bottom extension as a single part, which fixes the handle at 36 inches. The three piece version splits those into a gear and a separate bottom extension, which lets you set the handle height to match the active leaf. Both then take a top extension. Count the sections on the strip you are pulling out before you order anything.
Handle operated. There is no deadbolt and no cylinder on an inactive lock; the handle alone throws and retracts both shootbolts.
