Hoppe Roundbolt Top Extension, 37-13/16" Long with the Roundbolt at 32-1/8"

This is the upper half of a Hoppe HLS9000 roundbolt strip.

A roundbolt is a solid steel cylinder that rotates out of the lock strip and into a round pocket machined into the jamb. It does not fold flat like a tongue and it does not hook behind anything, it simply fills the pocket with a round section of steel that loads evenly whichever way the door is pushed. With the door open the bolt sits flush with the faceplate, which is why Hoppe sold the roundbolt strip as the version that still looks finished with the door standing open.

The extension bolts to the gear behind the handle and carries the drive bar up the door to a second roundbolt near the head of the frame, so the panel is held at the top as well as at the latch. It is sold on its own, which matters when the gear is sound but the extension was cut wrong, bent in a warped panel, or lost during a door swap.

This is a radius end extension. The faceplate finishes in a rounded curve rather than a square cut, to seat in a routed pocket with a curved top. A square end part will not drop into a radius pocket without reworking the door edge, so match the end shape before you compare any dimension.

Two figures decide the match and both have to be right. The overall length sets how the strip sits in the door edge, and the roundbolt position sets where the bolt lands, because the keeper is already machined into your jamb at a fixed height. An extension of the correct length will still bolt on and fail to lock if its roundbolt sits an inch away from the one you removed.

Manual operation. Lifting the handle throws every roundbolt at once; the key throws the deadbolt separately.
