Hoppe Automatic Two Roller Gear, 1-3/8" (35mm) Backset with 1 Inch Deadbolt Throw

This is the bottom gear of a Hoppe HLS9000 two roller lock, supplied with the bottom extension carrying its roller.

This is the current replacement for the older part 8779491. This part is the 37 inch handle height build with a 60mm cutoff. If your handle sits at 36 inches, part 8778251 is the one you want.

A roller is an adjustable cam, not a fixed bolt. It rides into a keeper on the jamb and a hex wrench turns it in or out to change how hard the door pulls against the weatherseal. On a two roller strip there are two of them, one on the gear and one on the top extension, so the pressure can be set separately at the bottom and the top of the door.

Automatic means the lock throws its own points the moment the door closes, with no need to lift the handle. You still turn the key for the deadbolt. On a two roller lock the tell is a third roller: a small roller-like piece about 6-1/2" (165mm) above the lever, which the frame presses as the door shuts. That one does not lock anything, it triggers the throw. Count the rollers on your door edge: three means automatic, two means manual, and the two do not interchange.
